Beyond FTP Feature Tour
Beyond FTP -
Remote Administration
Back
to Feature Tour
The remote administration features allow you to manage Beyond FTP servers
from a central location. There are four areas involved in remote
administration. All require that you possess administrator security rights
at the remote server for full control. You must enter the administrator user
id and password in the address book at your central location. In addition,
all require that the version of the remote Beyond FTP server be at least
2.3.
Remote Address Book administration allows you to modify the address
book at one or more Beyond FTP servers. A separate window is opened for each
remote address book, and provides the functionality associated with
modifying your local address book. You may save your changes at just the one
remote location, or distribute the address book to multiple locations.
Administrator rights are required.
Remote Security administration allows you to modify the Beyond FTP
file system security information. This includes the ability to add and
delete users, rights, and access assignments. Only a single server may be
modified at a time. However, the security files may be distributed with
address book information when they apply to multiple locations.
Administrator rights are required.
Remote Services administration allows you to modify the Beyond FTP
services configuration as maintained by the Console program. Services may be
added or removed, and the advanced configuration may be altered as
necessary. These changes may only be made on a server-by-server basis, and
require access to the Beyond FTP directory at the remote machine. You must
restart the services for many of these changes to take effect. Administrator
rights are required.
Remote Script administration allows you to start, stop, and obtain
the status of scripts running at remote servers. This does not include
remote script editing. The script must already be compiled and the .DCF file
must reside at the remote server. Generally, all scripts are maintained
centrally, and include user and password information from the central
address book. The compiled script files are then distributed and managed
using these features. Administrator rights are required to start and stop
scripts. However, you may examine remote scripts as long as you have access
rights (read) to the Beyond FTP directory.
